Cumulus Networks this week announced its Technology Ecosystem Partner (TEP) program. The Silicon Valley startup founded by ex-Cisco engineers leverages open source Linux as the operating system on standard bare metal switches/hardwares. The program is formed with the objective of enabling a broad range of partners to speed networking innovation, focusing on key technologies such as cloud orchestration, data center automation, monitoring and visibility, and storage.
The program has received the backing of 21 initial program members and several open source communities within its three program tiers. Just recently, Midokura, a leading network virtualization overlay software provider has successfully completed integration with Cumulus Linux, going from concept to showcasing functionality in 22 days, according to Cumulus. Cumulus added that Linux customers can gain faster development cycles by the open Linux environment compared to long feature development cycles and limited choice inherent with traditional networking vendors.
Reza Malekzadeh, VP Business, Cumulus Networks.
With Cumulus Linux, the network OS offers a platform for innovation for both cloud infrastructures and traditional network environments. Linux applications can be built and deployed seamlessly, with minimal partner integration. Customers can leverage the TEP program to choose their preferred application stack and go from idea to execution in weeks instead of the months or years required with single-vendor networking stacks.
Dan Mihai Dumitriu, CEO and co-founder, Midokura
We are very pleased to become an ecosystem partner of Cumulus Networks. Network Virtualization Overlays and Linux based switches are a match made in heaven, and we expect to work closely with the Cumulus Networks team to bring to market a holistic cloud networking solution.
