Huawei and SingTel have launched the 5G Joint Innovation Program at the 2014 Global Mobile Broadband Forum (MBB Forum) which is taking place is Shanghai.  During the event which is jointly supported by the GSMA, the China Academy of Telecommunication Research of MIIT and Huawei, the company unveiled the  'first' 128TRX Massive MIMO prototype in the industry, a key technology required for the evolution of 5G networks from 4G. 

According to Huawei, the commercial operation of 5G telecom services is expected to start globally by 2020 and is predicted to provide 1,000 times more capacity than current mobile broadband networks. Huawei also demonstrated the Sparse Code Multiple Access (SCMA), a significant breakthrough technology which the company claims can improve the number of connections by 300%, and decrease air interface latency by 7 times.
