3 Screen Solutions (3SS) and KAONMEDIA announced that a Nordic pay-TV giant has launched its next-generation super-aggregated TV services for Scandinavia on an Android TV STB, supporting direct-to-home (DTH) satellite, IPTV and OTT.

Powerful hybrid KAON BCM72180 PVR STBs (set-top box) will be available to Allente’s over 1 million subscribers, enabled by KAON middleware, NAGRA Media CAS, Broadcom 72180 SoC and based on 3SS UX (user experience) technology. The service will have a phased rollout throughout the Nordic region in 2022, starting with Sweden.

PVR functionality will be rolled out later this year. With KAON STB middleware fully integrated with the Android TV software stack, new pre-certified Android TV capabilities are enabled. These include Custom Over-The-Air Update, accelerating the introduction of new appealing features.

In 2021 Allente became one of the world’s first operators to complete Google Common Broadcast Stack integration on an Android TV Operator Tier STB. The integration was completed in just six months thanks to close collaboration between Allente, KAONMEDIA, NAGRA, Broadcom, 3SS and Google. Google created its standardized Common Broadcast Stack (CBS) to help more TV viewers get the next-generation app-rich services they crave, enabled by the Android TV Operating System (OS). Adopting CBS means easier and faster integration for hybrid Android TV OS devices, accelerated time-to-market, simplified upgrades and reduced overall TCO (total cost of ownership).

Allente’s new hybrid KAON STB delivers high performance, with proven next-gen 3SS-engineered customer experience.

The Nordic region’s pre-eminent pay-TV provider, Allente continues to build upon its first successful 3SS-enabled project, OnePlace, the satellite and OTT service which Canal Digital launched in February 2018. Allente was later formed from the merger of Viasat Consumer and Canal Digital in May 2020. The operator offers TV services and broadband to customers in Norway, Sweden, Denmark and Finland.

Jon EspenNergård, Allente CTO
We’re very excited to now offer our next-generation service to subscribers via satellite, IPTV and OTT streaming. We thank our amazing partners KAON and 3SS, and all our technology collaborators, in helping us provide our customers with a rich array of content, including their favorite apps, all wrapped in a world-class 3SS-enabled experience and delivered on KAON’s powerful STB.

Tom Buhl, KAON Media Executive Vice President
We congratulate Allente for going live with its next-gen TV offering, which is bringing a truly advanced service, abundant with top entertainment, to viewers across the Nordic region. We look forward to continuing to support Allente, a true pioneer in our industry.
