Fastweb, a Swisscom subsidiary that provides fixed broadband and IPTV service in Italy announced that it has connected a million of its residential and business customers in Rome who can now browse the Internet at ultra-broadband speeds of up to 100 Mbps. The Operator in 2013, announced that the fiber network will be extended to reach 30 per cent of the city's population by this year.
Along side high speed fiber broadband connectivity, Fastweb is also bringing the 'WOW FI' community-based WiFi service to Rome. New users in Rome will be able to access around 100,000 hotspots made available by Fastweb customers who agree to share a small portion of their fixed broadband bandwidth in return for access to the community Wi-Fi network throughout the country. The WOW-Fi is currently available in 46 Italian cities and boasts a total of 250,000 active hotspots throughout the country.
