Partnering with Facebook, Reliance Communications (RCOM) has launched free access to a list of 40 sites, including Wikipedia, BBC News, Facebook & Facebook Messenger and Bing for its customers using the Internet.org's Android app, marking the first of such an initiative in the region. The program is part of Facebook's global digital inclusion initiative, Internet.org project, that aims to provide basic mobile Internet services for free.
The service will be offered to Reliance's customers in Mumbai, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh, Chennai, Tamil Nadu and Kerala and will then be extended to the rest of the country. All Reliance's customers in these ares with internet enabled mobile phones will be able to get access to the free service.
