MirrorLink adds Samsung Galaxy Note 4 and Galaxy Note Edge to its list of smartphones that work on its connected car digital platform. The Car Connectivity Consortium(CCC), the organization behind the development of MirrorLink, made the announcement recently saying that these new Samsung models can now be used with its Mirrorlink platform to bring data connection to the car. At present, the consortium's members represents more than 80 percent of the world’s auto market, more than 70 percent of the global smartphone market and major players in the aftermarket consumer electronics vendors.
The MirrorLink platfom allows drivers to access a wide range of features they often use on the phone such as calling and messaging services, navigation and social media on their vehicle's dashboard via the vehicle's digital display. With the addition of Samsung's devices, drivers with these handsets can continue to use them safely and conveniently while driving in cars which are fitted with the Mirrorlink solution, which is already available across many models from auto brands such as Honda, PSA Peugeot-Citroën, Toyota, Skoda and Volkswagen.
In the fast growing connected car market, MirrorLink provides a simple and straightforward data connectivity solution for the car and is the only OS- and OEM-agnostic standard in the segment, said CCC .
"MirrorLink helps Samsung fulfill its promise of category leadership by offering drivers a broad range of features and vehicle compatibility when they need to safely use a smartphone on the road. Matched with the sheer number of MirrorLink-enabled, mass-market vehicles currently rolling off assembly lines, the MirrorLink-enabled Samsung Galaxy Note 4 and Galaxy Note Edge give consumers the extraordinary opportunity to continue their Galaxy experience without interrupting one of the most attentive activities of their day.”
- Chan-Woo Park, Vice President of Samsung
"Based on the Galaxy series’ popularity in the global smartphone market, MirrorLink’s presence in the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 and Galaxy Note Edge is a watershed moment for car connectivity. With volume production of MirrorLink-enabled vehicles currently taking place at Honda, PSA Peugeot-Citroën, Toyota, Volkswagen and many others, MirrorLink has clearly entered mainstream acceptance as one of the world’s most compelling connected-car technologies.”
