Architect - Deep Packet Inspection (DPI), San Jose, CA

Job Description

Works closely with architectural and development teams to ensure hardware, software, and product architectures are developed in line with the vision and future direction of the product lines and company. This position is responsible for creating and helping to execute the vision for F5’s next Deep Packet Inspection (DPI) and Policy Enforcement product. The successful candidate will work closely with development managers and senior engineers to define requirements, approve designs, and review implementation to ensure the creation of industry-leading solutions.

• - Responsible for upholding F5’s Business Code of Ethics and for promptly reporting violations of the Code or other company policies.
• - Architect our DPI and Policy Enforcement solutions. This includes helping create and define functional specifications, working with development managers and their teams to define designs that address the requirements, and participating in code reviews.
• - Prototype solutions/algorithms as needed to help solve technical issues during development and collaborate with other architects in the PD organization to leverage other technologies, and share new technologies with others.
• - Serves as technical lead to detail all aspects of product design and ensures that resulting design specification fits into technical architectural framework.
• - Leads, reviews, and may direct the key architectural components of F5's hardware, software, and general product architecture.
• - Performs analysis to define design requirements for modification to existing tools, utilities, system structures, environments and determines project scope and estimating activities
• - Project Management responsibilities: Serves as primary source of technical expertise to a project team and is a mentor for junior staff members.
• - Sets the direction and manages the work flow of other engineers within the scope of assigned projects.
• - Recommends and maintains technical design methodologies, processes and standards
• - Participation on cross functional design teams to develop new product as well as address design issues / maintenance of existing ones
• - Interacts with top management and senior external personnel, serving as spokesperson on company’s technical capabilities and future direction
• - Support upper management as needed

Technical Skills

• - 12+ year’s experience in the development of computer software, preferably in the UNIX environment.
• - BS/BA in Computer Science or related field, Masters preferred
• - Recognized industry-wide as an expert in the technology field.
• - Familiarity with DPI and Policy enforcement solutions a plus.
• - Expert Knowledge and extensive experience with network and web technologies (e.g. ip, tcp, http, ssl).
• - Solid coding skills and familiarity with Linux.
• - Experience leading complex product development initiatives from concept through release
• - Exceptional problem solving/project management skills
• - Strong leadership skills, and an ability to mentor and groom other engineers
• - Excellent written and oral communication skills
• - Able to collaborate and thrive in a fast-paced high-performance environment
