In occasion of International Women's Day, three women in tech - Vera Shulman, Vera Miretsky and Daniela Morein Bar - join us today to talk about their professional journeys in the telecommunications space and how they are leading the way for women involvment and advocacy in both tech and telecoms.

Vera Shulman, CEO of ProfiSea Labs says, “I am a firm believer that women can do whatever they want to - they just must want to do it. The DevOps and FinOps fields are predominantly male-dominated, with a low percentage of women who enter the DevOps industry as they prefer to work with other technologies. Having said this, there are super talented and professional women that are working in DevOps and making a success of it."

"I started working in software and product development for leading companies such as Comverse, Microsoft, RSA Dell and Varonis, until I made the decision to join ProfiSea, a boutique DevOps and Cloud company providing a full spectrum of Cloud Management services. During my professional career I have always been managing software and product development specializing in implementing agile development processes, so when DevOps was in its early stages it was natural to embrace the DevOps mindset and tools. With regards to FinOp, this is a relatively new field which started a couple of years ago. Further to working with many types of ProfiSea customers across various industries, it became evident that there was a need to develop a FinOps platform, which led to the basis of the start-up ProfiSea Labs and the development of its AI-Based FinOps automation and collaboration platform, Uniskai."

"As most of our employees are based in Ukraine, last year we were challenged with heightened tensions in the region which ultimately led to the outbreak of war. Knowing that the situation was escalating and having our employee’s well-being in mind, we needed to act quickly as our biggest challenge was to minimize the impact of the war on our employees and customers. We succeeded to evacuate many employees before the war actually started and for those that remained in Ukraine, our awesome HR team constantly works to ensure that there is a “safe haven” for them to go to if they need any communications, electricity, heating and social support. A year on, the war still persists, however, business has continued as usual and I am happy to say that all our Ukrainian employees are safe and enjoy working with us. Additionally, we have gained new customers in the Ukrainian banking sector."

"When it comes to role models, although there are several really amazing CEOs, I prefer to refer to all women that juggle both career and motherhood. It is a fine balance and if cleverly managed can be a very rewarding experience."

Vera Shulman is the CEO of ProfiSea Labs, an AI-based next-gen multi-cloud management platform, founded in 2020, that has developed a cloud management platform to help CloudOps engineers and IT managers visualize their cloud assets and reduce their IT costs. Vera started working in software and product development for leading companies such as Comverse, Microsoft, RSA Dell and Varonis, until she made the move to join Profisea, an Israeli boutique DevOps and Cloud company providing a full spectrum of Cloud Management services. Vera is a seasoned Software, Product and Development executive and entrepreneur. She has an MBA in Technology Management and Entrepreneurship from Tel Aviv University and a BSc in Computer Science from the Hebrew University in Jerusalem.

Vera Miretsky, Vice President of R&D at floLIVE adds, “There is still the perception in the IoT space that there are jobs that are not suitable for women. My advice to women who are looking into this type of career is that if you really want it, you can achieve it."

"I am proof that achieving what you set out to do in the tech space is possible. I started my career as a provider of professional maintenance services to nuclear plants in Russia. In those days, working as a programmer had limited options. This prompted me to search for additional avenues. I studied finance and taxation which led to my role as CFO of a company. A move saw me reinventing myself as programmer and landing roles in large organisations and ultimately VP of R&D at floLIVE."

"If you want to make an impact on the future, you need to be willing to learn, be flexible and keep up to speed with the dynamic IoT environment. Try to always remember the end goal - that you can impact millions of lives on a daily basis with your talent and knowledge.”

Vera Miretsky is the Vice President of R&D at floLIVE. Vera joined floLIVE’s management team in early 2022 as Vice President of R&D. She brings over 20 years of experience driving digital strategy and delivery of highly complex BSS transformations in Europe, APAC, North America and LATAM. Prior to floLIVE, Vera worked at Amdocs for several years where she held the position of the global leader of Business Support Systems for mobile operators, and her most recent role was where she led the development and delivery of Amdocs Digital Brand Product, Optima. Vera holds a master’s degree in Computer Science from Saratov University.

Daniela Morein Bar, Founder and CEO of Inspired Marketing comments, "The tech industry has progressed in promoting diversity and inclusion, but improvements can be made to support women and men with personal responsibilities. The industry can assist by facilitating flexible work arrangements - flexi hours, remote work options, and job-sharing opportunities. This gives employees a better work/life balance, without being penalized for prioritising family."

"Companies can offer mentorship programs for women. By pairing them with experienced mentors in the industry, they gain valuable guidance and support in advancing their careers, which is beneficial for women that face unique challenges."

"Companies should recognize and address any biases that exist in their hiring and promotion processes. They should provide equal pay and promotions for men and women in similar positions, and offer opportunities for leadership and professional development programs that support the advancement of women."

"The tech industry plays a pivotal role in encouraging more women to pursue careers in technology and science by connecting with the community, i.e., volunteering at schools, hosting workshops or hackathons, and sponsoring scholarship programs for young women. By engaging with and inspiring young women at an early age, the industry encourages confidence and interest in tech and science, ultimately creating a more diverse and inclusive workforce."
