During the TV Connect event last week in London, Huawei demonstrated its ‘Carrier-grade 4K’ solution for live Video on Demand (VOD) service. The solution promises an improved video service to users through sharper colors, increased bandwidth, and excellent operations, responding to the market demand for ultra high quality live VOD services.

According to Huawei, the 4K solution improves image resolution and supports a higher spectrum of colors, giving a more natural feel to the images displayed. The 4K video resolution is touted to have four times the pixels of a Full HD service. Huawei also claims that the latest VoD platform delivers images three times faster than the standard High Definition (HD) video platforms by operating on higher bandwidth. Huawei said that the 4K technology combined with the 4G technologies enables high grade live TV content to be broadcasted to mobile users via the new 4K smart devices.

Last year, Huawei embarked on a pilot project in Sichuan, China with China Telecom to launch a first commercial 4K project using the Carrier-grade 4K solution.

Huawei believes that the 4K technology, supporting the live VOD service, will be one of key areas driving Operators' revenues in future.

Zheng Chunhua, President, Carrier Business Marketing, Huawei
Huawei is committed to developing strong video capabilities and the ‘Carrier-grade 4K’ standard video domain builds on our previous successes in this field. Leveraging 4K technology, this domain delivers four key requirements to provide an improved video experience to users: continuous play without interruption; no pixilation of images; able to switch channels in one second; and quick loading of videos on demand.
