In conjunction with the launch of its Uncarrier 7.0 "Wi-Fi Unleased", T-Mobile is offering its subscribers a 'cell-tower' of their own via its T-Mobile Personal CellSpot. Under the Un-carrier 7.0 "Wi-Fi Unleashed", subscribers who purchased Wi-Fi calling enabled smartphones will be able to make calls and send text messages on Wi-Fi connection - either private or public Wi-Fi- without the need to download any extra applications or use usernames and passwords.
T-Mobile subscribers can apply for the Personal CellSpot with just a USD25 refundable deposit and have it installed in their premises. The Personal CellSpot, says T-Mobile, is built on proven Wi-Fi technology which enhances signal strenght and thus, allows the best experience on Wi-Fi. All subscribers need is a high-speed broadband connection and a Wi-Fi calling enabled smartphone, a feature that now is available on all smartphones sold in T-Mobile stores.
In addition to the Personal CellSpot, T-Mobile is partnering with Gogo to offer free in-flight texting which enables T-Mobile customers to send and receive unlimited text and picture messages, and even get visual voicemail, on any Gogo-equipped flight on U.S.-based airlines, covering 75% of all domestic flights last year, said T-Mobile.
