A recent report on the Connected TV market lined up Comcast, DIRECTV, Hulu, Netflix and Envivio as market leaders for the video services segment. The Connected TV is a fast growing concept whereby customers stream their favourite TV content - serials, movies, video clips, music videos and others - on a wide range of devices either using data connection or via intermediary devices such as connected media players, game consoles, tablets or even smartphones. The report by TechNavio, a leading technology research and advisory company expects the Global Video Services on Connected TV Market to grow at a CAGR of 74.73% from 2014 to 2018, indicating that there will be major shifts in the way people access their TV content in the next few years.

In a joint statement by TechNavio and Envivio, a provider of advanced video delivery solutions, the proliferation of smart devices has been one of the major drivers for this market as consumers are now able to access content anywhere they like. Companies such as Envivio enable household brands such as Comcast to deliver high quality and superior experience on their video content to subscribers. Envivio's compression technology for example, enables high quality video to be accessible on mutliple devices, regardless of networks and operating systems, said Envivio.

Apart from these five companies, TechNavio also listed Apple, Blinkbox, British Sky Broadcasting Group, Dish Network, Google, KDG, LoveFilm, Time Warner Cable, UPC Broadband, Verizon FIOS and YouTube as other major vendors in this segment. As the Internet-of-Things(IoT) takes off, and every device becomes connected to the internet, the idea of Connected TV will continue expanding to TV Everywhere, where any connected device with a digital screen (including screens on the refridgerator, screens in the car and screens in the classrooms) will all be able to bring any internet-based video content to anywhere the consumers want to access it from.

"We are pleased to be named as one of the key players who are leading this market, alongside Comcast, DIRECTV, Hulu and Netflix. We are in good company with such mega-brands. This report also confirms the seismic change we see in consumer viewing habits. We are the people behind the screens who enable video service providers, like Comcast, to stay in front of these trends through our cutting-edge video software technology."
