The internet-of-things (IoT)/M2M has spurred the growth of various new solutions primarily integrated service platforms that allow manufacturers and product makers to offer their customers access to cloud-based applications on on end and network operators to provide connectivity to the connected objects on the other end. One trend that is emerging strong from the rapid growth in the IoT/M2M segment is the creation of new ecosystems that comprise a wide array of players - covering service providers, manufacturers, hardware makers, cloud service porviders, app developers and software solution providers - who together enable M2M services to be build and delivered to both retail and enterprise customers. The breadth of the ecosystem that is involved in delivering the final service has seen the birth of various strategic alliances never seen before, including operator-to-operator alliances which enable operators to meet global coverage needs of their enterprise customers whose products are sold worldwide. At the industry level, the IoT/M2M segment is seeing the establishment of country level and regional level organizations set up to address issues relating to integration, compatibility, standardization, compliance and promote the development of solutions and services in this space.
Recently, the Swedish IoT alliance, Swedish M2M Service Enablers (SMSE) announced that it is joining forces with Europe's biggest IoT industry alliance, M2M alliance, which at present boasts around 80 members. SMSE features 33 members, the latest of which is Slagkryssaren and 12 sponsors, with Intel joining in recently. According to Intel, SMSE makes a strong addition to their global IoT eco-system network and will enable it to accelerate the piloting and validation of leading IoT solutions, proving the value from a user, business and sustainability viewpoint – and accelerate scale-out globally via collaboration with leading entrepreneurial companies and customers.
Magnus Melander, Founder SMSE
Intel is an IoT powerhouse very active in several industries of key importance for our members including buildings, transportation, energy and smart cities. Our partnership will immediately pay off since both organizations are involved in establishing open service environments for different segments of the building/real estate market. ........Germany and Sweden are close trade partners since decades and both countries are advanced users of IoT solutions in society and business. Our partnership provides great opportunities for IoT entrepreneurs and customers to collaborate across boarders and we will together arrange activities to make this happen.
Eric Schneider, 1st chairman of the M2M Alliance
This is a big chance for the IoT industry and their end customers. Joining the forces of the two biggest associations will raise the drive of this innovative business. Only with smart solutions and with the approach develop once deploy many times we are able to reduce costs and efficiency..
