Polkomtel, the operator of Plus network in Poland in partnership with Huawei has successfully carried out a VoLTE Friendly User Test (FUT) on its commercial network.

Acccording to Huawei, the commercial testing on VoLTE is a first of its kind in Poland and was completed using the Huawei Smartphone Ascend P7. During the FUT, eSRVCC (extended Single Radio Voice Call Continuity) functionality was introduced ensuring call continuity when moving from 4G to 2G or 3G coverage.

The commercial trial demonstrated VoLTE calls and messaging functions that offer instant call connection, High Definition (HD) voice quality, HD video, multi-media calls and enable a seamless exchange of voice calls across 2G, 3G and 4G coverage.

Huawei said that the voice service which uses advanced Adaptive Multi-Rate Wideband (AMR-wideband) technology intelligently reducing background noise together with the improvement of HD video quality will change the way we communicate ‘over the telephone’.

"Our Research and Development Department is very dynamic, we have a brilliant team of professionals who develop new technological solutions. Thanks to them Polkomtel and Cyfrowy Polsat were first to introduce LTE for individual customers. Two weeks ago, as the first company in Poland and one of the first companies worldwide, we carried out video broadcast via mobile networks in LTE Broadcast (eMBMS) technology. Now we are finalizing the successful trial of VoLTE. We hope that thanks to our work Plus will increase its competitive advantage over its direct competitors."

-          Jacek Felczykowski, CTO of Polkomtel

"Huawei is proud of our partnership with Polkomtel, which has resulted in the successful completion of a pioneering technical deployment of VoLTE in Poland. It reflects the growth and maturity of the VoLTE ecosystem in the marketplace. We will continue to collaborate to ensure the service quality and innovation of Polkomtel's VoLTE network."
