Snapshot of Hitachi Data Systems Webpage

Hitachi Data Systems Corporatin (HDS) is partnering with Clarion, a provider of car audio and electronics services, to conduct joint research and develop new data-driven solutions for Clarion's in-vehicle connectivity products. The data-driven solutions leverage on the information collected by the connected vehicles, and are aimed at providing usable insights that will lead to improved auto performance and safety.

According to a statement from HDS, the solution works by obtaining, correlating, and visualizing onboard data (OBD) from connected vehicles, which it said will hit 152 million units by 2020 as per the IHS estimate. Within the IoT space, there will be 50 billion connected smart physical objects, it added. HDS and Clarion will utilize data collected and transmitted by all the connected devices to drive insight that will enable auto-makers and app/content providers to enhance their services.

Emphasizing the shift of data analytics from descriptive and diagnostics insights to predictive analysis, HDS cited use cases for its solution in the area of predictive maintenance, where auto manufacturers will be able to gain insights such as key maintenance data points and the ability to predict wear over time and in infotainment services where drivers will be able to safely access new in-car services, such as weather and GPS data and all the way to sharing information from connected cities.

According to HDS, the envisaged solutions will benefit a large number of participants in the auto industry, namely manufacturers, underwriters, fleet management companies, heavy industries and consumers.

Our new partnership with Hitachi Data Systems allows us to deliver more active and real-time information to drivers. We are working with HDS to make driving and traveling in cars safer, more entertaining and significantly more personalized to both the vehicles' specifics and drivers' preferences."
