ABI: Mobile DPI, Policy and Optimization Markets to Reach $25B by 2019

DPI, Policy and Optimization Market 2014 PCC Mobile Broadband

ABI Research via its latest report, Next Generation Optimization, DPI & Policy Market Research estimates that the mobile portion of the 3GPP PCRF, DPI, and web/video optimization market will reach US$ 3 Billion in 2014. The leading market research company also predicts the this segment will comfortably exceed US$ 25 Billion through 2019 with 80% of it being DPI and policy related.

ABI highlights that as mobile operators push for monetization of the mobile data traffic, the policy management segment, DPI and PCRF are becoming increasingly important in the mobile infrastructure strategy. It also added that the mobile video and web optimization use cases have changed from the earlier industry expectation and are becoming critical for rich media viewing on 4G networks. However, the revenues from this segment remain challenging, cautioned ABI.

"Net Neutrality notwithstanding, the DPI and Policy markets reflect the operators’ need to differentiate and optimize revenues. In the world of Smart Broadband, ‘if you can’t measure it, you can’t manage it’ is certainly true, and the coordination of these two are critical for operator profitability. Mobile Video and Web Optimization use cases are different from earlier industry expectations. Video Optimization is a necessary table stake for operators, and now the focus is on targeted optimization to manage quality of experience under network congestion.”
