Procera Networks, the global Internet Intelligence company, and Tilera® Corporation, the leader in high-performance, power-efficient computing, unveil the availability of DPI-on-a-NIC for high performance deep packet intelligence. The evolution to network architectures such as Software-Defined Networks (SDN) and Network Functions Virtualization (NFV) is accelerating the need for higher performance processing and deep application intelligence in traffic Layers 4 through 7 (L4-7). This integrated solution for SDN and NFV environments combines Procera’s Network Application Visibility Library (NAVL) software development kit with Tilera’s TILEncore-Gx™ Intelligent Application Adapters and ART software framework on a Network Interface Card (NIC).

According to Procera, the unique combination of Tilera and Procera’s solutions enables an effortless upgrade of existing networking equipment by offering a low power, high performance services blade, targeted at virtualized networks that are moving toward a standard server model. By forwarding traffic flows to Procera’s NAVL engine, Tilera achieves a URL filtering performance of over 350,000 new, unique URL’s per second, and a network monitoring performance of up to 80Gbps with the integrated solution.

There is a growing demand for high-throughput, accurate and real-time intelligence to enable network optimization and tiered billing within these new virtualized environments,” said Joe Digiovanni, Director of Business Development at Procera Networks. “Application types are exploding in service provider and enterprise networks, and Procera’s NAVL engine provides the accuracy, breadth of applications and protocols support needed by enterprise and service provider customers alike.”

“The migration to virtualization places more computational overhead on x86 servers for complex data plane applications,” said Bob Doud, director of processor strategy, Tilera Corporation. “By offloading data plane portions of NFV to programmable data plane acceleration adapters such as our TILEncore-Gx, customers can realize the performance and flexibility they are hoping to achieve through virtualization. The combination of Tilera’s hardware and Procera’s software solutions provide a scalable DPI offload model that can be implemented in a server environment.”
